What Is BMI?

BMI stands for Body Mass Index. It is a simple and widely used method to understand whether a person’s body weight is healthy in relation to their height. BMI helps identify if someone is underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese.

How Does BMI Work?

BMI works by comparing a person’s weight with their height using a standard mathematical formula: BMI = Weight (kg) ÷ Height² (meters)

For example, if a person weighs 70 kg and their height is 1.70 meters, their BMI is calculated by dividing the weight by the square of the height. The resulting number is then matched with standard BMI categories.

This calculation helps give a quick overview of whether a person’s weight falls within a healthy range.
